It's A Long Way To The Top.

Despite the fact that I'm really an average singer, one of my ambitions for a while now is to be the vocalist for a band. Since I started learning to play guitar I saw potential there for that dream to become a reality. Lacking nerve or perhaps the communication ability to propose this idea to the musicians in the store, I kept quiet. Which is why today I was overjoyed. A few players who centralise at that music store are getting together to play a gig soon. It just so happens that they need someone fluent in English to belt out a few hits.

Without any hesitation I leaped on the offer and we got down to business. Being enlightened young gentlemen, they are well versed in the international rock scene. I was gladdened by some of the titles they intended to play. Let's just say that amongst the songs we will be playing are some by Guns N' Roses, Queen and Deep Purple. I'll have to work on my falsetto. Now knowing some of the songs, I still walked away a tad confused. I have no idea what we're doing, like when the performance will be, if we are going to practice at all or anything. All I was told was that they would call me, which is kind of vague. I'm sure in true Chinese fashion some time in the next few days I'll get a phone call saying 'We're on stage in 10 minutes.'

I'd better memorise the lyrics very soon just as a precaution. I can't believe my good fortune though. This is the one thing that I hoped would happen before I left China once and for all. Hopefully I will find out more details soon and anyone in the area is welcome to come and watch this spectacle. If I can I'll organize a video camera to record the whole thing for my friends abroad. Well, must be off to practice my Mick Jagger swagger, it doesn't come naturally, you know?
